Learning Journey

Leader: Mr Roberts

The Learning Journey is an exciting and creative way of teaching which is specifically designed for year 7 students. The Learning Journey allows for personalised learning and ensures a smooth transition from primary school.

Students will be taught for 9 lessons per week by one teacher. The lessons will have an emphasis on active learning and will focus on 6 personal, learning and thinking skills. They are:

Team Workers, Self Managers, Effective Participators, Independent Enquirers, Creative Thinkers and Reflective Learners.

The students learn through an exciting and engaging range of projects. History, Geography and ICT are the main subjects covered and are assessed using National Curriculum levels. Aspects of Drama, Art, Science, D&T and PSHEE are also an important part of Learning Journey lessons.

At the end of year 7 we are confident that students will not only have enjoyed their Learning Journey but have developed new and important skills which will prepare them to achieve their potential for the rest of Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. Through a personalised approach, with motivating and engaging activities we can enable students to raise their self esteem, have higher aspirations, develop an ability to work effectively with others, improve communication and negotiation skills and develop respect for themselves and others. These are all skills that are valued highly in education, the workplace and the community.
