Drama
Leader: Mr Ryan
There are two teachers and a Dance/Drama instructor in this team. At Key Stage 3, emphasis is on improving communication skills, enhancing literacy skills and improving the overall confidence of students. Students work extensively with mime, improvisation, script writing, and the use of freeze frame, monologue and duologue performances. They also look at what goes on behind the scenes in the theatre and what the theatre is like as a place of work.
Drama is assessed practically and students are tested on their input through rehearsal and preparation and all take part in, and evaluate, a performance at the end of each scheme of work. There is a major emphasis on being part of a team and in solving problems together.
All students have the opportunity to participate in additional activities if they wish and have one major homework project. Year 7 students will be participants in Drama based activities as part of the Year 7 Learning Journey
At Key Stage 4, GCSE Drama includes; Improvisation, Script work, Devised work and Dance Drama. All students participate in these. The examination is 40% written and 60% practical and Drama is a very successful subject at GCSE level. Pupils achieve between 93% and 100% C and above every year. Most of these achieve B and above. There is a huge take up of Drama at Post 16 Establishments and TEA is widely regarded as sending some of the best prepared candidates who do well at A level or BTEC.
