Design and Technology
Leader: Mrs L Smith

The faculty consists of five full time teachers, a curriculum assistant, a technician for graphic products/product design and a part time technician for the food area.
The department has four well equipped workshops, two specialised food rooms and a material preparation room, together with a multi function room and a computer room. All are fitted with digital projectors and in each workshop there are computers available for the students to use during lessons. Within the workshop areas, specialist computer aided design packages are used, along with manufacturing machinery.
At Key Stage 3, students work in all areas during the school year and cover a range of basic skills. Students will be assessed and tested in a range of ways. A unit of work may have an 'on line' test at the end of the course, the practical work will be evaluated, and the homework will also count towards to 'working at grade' each term. Students are given their targets, along with advice on how to achieve them.
Pupils have the opportunity to take part in a variety of events, The Young Engineers Challenge, (Yr7) Girls in Construction, (Yr 9) Eastbourne Engineers Club, Chef of the Year, 'Let's get cooking' club (Yr 7 to 10), Yr 9 visit for students interested in Engineering and Hospitality Diplomas, Yr 10 visit to Middle Farm or Sharnfold Farm and after school clubs to support GCSE coursework.
