The Gifted & Talented at TEA

We like to think all students are able to flourish, be creative as well as independent in their learning. Every child has a talent to be proud of which is nurtured within the school ethos of Learn, Engage, Respect.

There are certain criteria that would officially define a student as being gifted. They are:

  1. An average CAT score of 115 or above
  2. Level 5 SATs from primary school
  3. Teacher recommendation

The criteria for being defined as talented is as follows:

  1. Teacher recommendation
  2. Representing the country/county in a certain discipline
  3. Professional recommendation

All the students who participate in our Gifted and Talented programme excel because they feel valued and not ashamed of being recognised.

Annual Trivia Challenge

On Wednesday 23rd November four TEA students (Leah Britton, Zachary Farnes, Nour Karkach and Ryan Purchase) went to Willingdon School to compete against teams from schools across Eastbourne and Hailsham. They worked together to answer a range of questions. We started off very well, but unfortunately the True or False round threw us out a little (did you know it’s illegal in Alaska to look at a moose through an aeroplane window?!) and ended up coming fourth (well, the Quizmaster did say that anybody who didn’t come 1st, 2nd or 3rd was considered to be in 4th place!). As one team member said, “The Trivia Challenge was fun but difficult. I would do it again though!” We will be entering another competition in July 2012.

Chess Club

Chess Club will start on Wednesday 4th January at Break 2 in room 45. If you’ve never played before, come along and learn from somebody who has!

The best 4 players will represent The Eastbourne Academy at an inter-school chess tournament in July 2012.
